SAS 40" Wide Acid-Resistant Ducted Fume Hood SS-340-E-AG
The 40” Wide Acid Gas Fume Hood offers a unique and durable external ducting solution for applications that produce corrosive acid gases. Sentry Air combined decades of experience building simple, effective exhaust fume hoods to create a corrosion-resistant ducted fume hood – the Acid Gas Fume Hood. Every component of this hood, including the sides, base, hinges, and even the exhaust collar, offers outstanding acid resistance, providing a safe and reliable acid gas containment solution. This lightweight ducted fume hood features a seam-welded, one-piece construction made of acid-resistant polypropylene. This hood features an upgraded polycarbonate sash with abrasion resistance coating (AR2) that offers improved scratch resistance, durability, and chemical resistance. The unique design of the Acid Gas Fume Hood creates a strong, durable structure with fewer potential leak points and no mechanical joints to corrode or fail. This system was designed specifically to handle corrosive acid gases and withstand harsh chemical environments where traditional materials would break down over time. With corrosion-resistant materials throughout the hood construction, this system is built to last, helping reduce maintenance, downtime, and replacement costs. The lightweight yet durable nature of the acid-resistant polypropylene allows for easier installation and handling. The 40” Acid Gas Fume Hood provides high material durability designed for use in laboratories, water testing facilities, chemical processing plants, or for specialty applications such as aqua regia. This system includes a 6” exhaust collar but does not include ductwork or a fan. Our team of application specialists can assist in selecting a suitable fan for your application. Disclaimer: The end user is ultimately responsible for conforming to all applicable exhaust ventilation regulations. Consult local, state, and federal agencies regarding the suitability of your application prior to venting fumes to the environment. It is your ultimate responsibility to ensure the safety and suitability of your application. For more information, contact a local safety professional (certified industrial hygienist) for conformance and suitability
Ducted Fume Hoods (exhaust hoods), manufactured by Sentry Air Systems, offer a simple and effective solution for venting fumes externally. These systems provide vital operator protection by drawing harmful fumes and particulate away from their breathing zone into ductwork and releasing them outside the facility. Our Ducted Exhaust Hoods are constructed of high-density polyethylene (E and EF models) or acid-resistant polypropylene (AG models), providing excellent resistance to chemicals and solvents. Exhaust Fume Hoods provide an effective engineering control for enclosing work areas that use hazardous chemicals, solvents, powders, or other volatile organics.
What is a Ducted Fume Hood?
A ducted fume hood is a ventilated enclosure used to protect labs and users from hazardous and respirable fumes, dust, and particulates. By utilizing a ducting system, this exterior-venting exhaust hood is typically used for applications with high volumes of volatile organic compounds, toxic chemicals, gases, powders, or chemicals with a low odor threshold.
Typically, ducted fume hoods act as a “last-resort” physical safety barrier to contain spills and leaks that could occur during various lab and industrial applications. While these systems are not a mobile fume control solution, ducted fume hoods can serve as a benchtop primary engineering control for fumes and airborne toxins that cannot be easily filtered and recirculated back into the immediate environment.
Is your application appropriate for a ducted fume hood?
Ductless Fume Hoods and other filtered fume extractors have application limitations due to high volatility, high volume, or the use of chemicals that cannot be filtered. With a high volume of chemical use, carbon filters quickly saturate and need to be replaced too often. For these applications, facilities should consider the types of chemicals that will be handled, the quantity, and at what temperature. Suitable applications would include minimal heating, pH testing, mixing, chemical transfer, and dilution. In most cases, speaking with a subject matter expert to determine whether or not your application requires a ducted fume hood is advisable. Ductless Fume Hood vs Ducted Fume Hood
Ducted fume hoods require ductwork to direct contaminants out of the lab using a fan mounted outside the building. This type of fume hood typically does not use filters. Ducted Fume Hoods are appropriate for use when there’s a potential for being exposed to high volumes of particulate and harmful fumes. Ducted systems minimize the risk of dangerous fumes being recirculated back into the work environment. These systems are beneficial for facilities that use a high volume of chemicals or use chemicals with a low odor threshold.
Alternatively, ductless fume hoods capture and filter contaminants from the airflow, releasing clean, filtered air back into the lab without the need for external venting. They require HEPA and/or carbon filters. Ductless systems require filter changes every 6
Benefits of a Ducted Fume Hood
- Ducting releases contaminants outside the building away from the work environment
- Continuous removal of harmful contaminants
- High durability to withstand the use of various chemicals and minimize maintenance costs
- Environmentally friendly
- Chemical compatibility
- Acid-resistant – standard exhaust hoods offer great chemical resistance. Our Acid Gas Fume Hood provides additional corrosion resistance capable of handling high volumes of acids.
Fume Hood Safety Considerations
Safe operation of your fume hood is critical to protecting your staff and anyone around it.
- Consult with a local safety professional or industrial hygienist to help conform to local, state, and federal regulations of external venting.
- Pedestrian traffic in front of the hood should be limited
- They should be visually inspected frequently
- Any bulky equipment should be placed at the rear of the hood
- To allow for airflow, large equipment should be raised at least 2” off the surface
- If your fume hood is used often, a regular cleaning schedule should be established
