SAS 200 Series Solder Pot Fume Extractor SS-200-PS

The Solder Pot Fume Extractor, manufactured by Sentry Air Systems, is designed to capture and purify airborne smoke and particulate emitted during slightly elevated soldering applications, such as solder pot use. This benchtop unit is an effective, quiet, and economical solution for many soldering operations that require a small, energy-efficient footprint.

This air recirculating fume extraction system utilizes high-quality filtration media that typically consists of either HEPA or ASHRAE filtration. Sentry Air’s HEPA filters are up to 99.97% efficient on particles 0.3 microns and larger, while ASHRAE filters are up to 95% efficient on particles 0.5 microns and larger. Both filters are uniquely constructed from flame-retardant materials.

What is a Solder Pot Fume Extractor?

A solder(ing) pot fume extractor is a benchtop air filtration system that removes fumes and smoke from soldering applications and the air immediately around the workspace. The process of soldering produces fumes (solder smoke) that can be hazardous to the operator as well as the environment. And as such, it is imperative to have safety measures in place that can provide a full measure of protection as well as provide a way to breathe in clean air. With a solder pot fume extractor, the soldering smoke is pulled into the fume extractor, filtered through a combination of HEPA and activated carbon filters, and then recirculated back into the shop, thus simultaneously protecting the user and the environment they are working in.

    Are Solder Fumes Hazardous?

Yes. These fumes can cause respiratory and skin irritation, including eye, throat, and lung irritation, nose bleeds, and headaches. Due to fumes containing harmful particulate and gaseous matter, OSHA has permissible exposure limits (PELs) to protect workers from heavy metals, chemicals, volatile organic compounds, and other harmful matter.

In studies that have mostly in the United States and England in the electronics industry, Weller, a manufacturer of soldering chemicals (among other items), reports that "at least 20% of the employees working in the soldering industry have clinical signs of asthma caused by the work environment." WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS LEAD AND MAY CONTAIN OTHER TOXIC METALS OR CHEMICALS. Ingestion or inhalation of fumes or particles released through processing could cause lead poisoning or cancer. Absorption of lead is known to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm and may result for example in damage to the blood and neurological systems. Use only with adequate ventilation. Use NIOSH-approved respiratory protection when necessary. Wash thoroughly before eating, drinking, or smoking. Not for use in potable water service systems...
